I hereby officially announce the return of Columbo.
And I can officially say that the news I doth wish to share are those of true joy. Less than a week ago I was a broken man, an empty shell following the news of the Legend David Lambs departure from Sunderland South FC. This was a huge blow to the Mighty South bearing in mind that David was and always will be a member of the our ‘family’. I have touched on this subject previously and maintain that our family are strong and united as one, but please do not be under any illusion. David departed for work commitments and though we all grieved we pulled together as one and kept the spirit alive.
As I sat and looked through my scrapbook only yesterday I felt mixed emotions reading through the old clippings which have etched David’s name into Sunderland South folklore and into my heart forever. Memories of true joy, memories I will carry with me always. If I close my eyes I can still see him drifting elegantly through the bewildered defence and striking effortlessly beyond a flailing arm of many a beaten keeper, a truly beautiful scene. Then as if it was a dream I hear the phone ring and the gaffers name flashes upon my telephone, I answer and hear the news……David Lamb will be returning to duty! Now let me tell you, David left due to work commitments as I have previously stated but has decided the South has to come first and personally I cannot wait, I feel resurrected, born again and Dave I want to thank you, you have pulled me from the brink.
All now is positive; all hands on deck, The South can and have become a major challenge in this league and I and all of the boys will be surprised….sorry disappointed if we do not end this season clutching the league trophy.
I witnessed the boys play Simonside last Saturday who apparently are the best this league has to offer, the South were unfortunately beaten, but don’t be mistaken, many would say this was a huge injustice. If these boys are the best then the future is bright. I think the South proved that it is the top teams, ie Simonside, Whitehill and Seaham Magic who will have to enter our arena and try and compete with us, try and defend our relentless assault, try and deal with our flair and power, and try and break our spirit…….Good Luck
I would personally like to say welcome back David, you are and always will be my hero.
